KUALA LUMPUR: The PKR leadership has expressed support for Dr Mahathir Mohamad, responding to a claim by PAS leaders of a plan to oust the prime minister through a no-confidence vote.

The party’s Central Leadership Committee rejected accusations it said were aimed at putting leaders at loggerheads and weaken the cooperation in the Pakatan Harapan coalition.

“PKR adheres to the agreement reached and announced on Jan 7, 2018, where Dr Mahathir is appointed as prime minister, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail becomes the deputy prime minister while Anwar Ibrahim will take over as the eighth prime minister after two years,” it said in a statement.

PKR said its present focus was to support the PH government’s efforts to strengthen the economy and overcome people’s problems including the issue of costs of living.

PAS Youth chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi on Feb 19 claimed that there were certain quarters in the coalition who were against Mahathir.
