Dr Mahathir agrees to implement ‘visa on arrival’ system in Langkawi

The visa on arrival system is expected to encourage more tourists to visit Langkawi.

LANGKAWI: Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has in principle agreed to the implementation of the “visa on arrival” (VOA) system in Langkawi, said Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Mohamaddin Ketapi.

“I have discussed with Dr Mahathir on the VOA for Langkawi and he has agreed.

“After this, I’ll write a letter on the proposal to Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin,” he told reporters after launching the SFT3 Special Tourism Fund here today.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry deputy secretary-general (tourism) Haslina Abdul Hamid, who was also present, said the ministry had held a series of discussions with the home ministry on the matter.

“So far, the response has been positive,” she added.
