PETALING JAYA: Minutes after being released today, former DAP member Jufazli Shi Ahmad was rearrested, his lawyer said.

Syed Amirul Syed Idrus said his client was rearrested around lunch hour at the Dang Wangi police station.

“My client was finally released after a five-day remand today. But just 10 minutes later, he was detained again over a different incident,” he told FMT.

He said the investigating officer from Bukit Aman informed him that the second arrest was linked to a 58-minute video Jufazli had recorded before his first arrest on March 16.

Syed Amirul said he was informed that Jufazli was being detained for two offences, the first under Section 504 of the Penal Code and the second under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The first is about intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.

Jufazli was initially picked up by police on March 16 after a police report was lodged against him.

Jufazli had accused Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad of various crimes, including corruption, power abuse and colluding with PAS president Hadi Awang and Sarawak head of state Taib Mahmud.

Jufazli had previously been a staunch supporter of the new federal government and had previously showered praises on Mahathir and his leadership.

However, he changed his tune drastically from Feb 24 and started accusing Mahathir and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) of trying to protect Hadi and former prime minister Najib Razak.
