PUTRAJAYA: A minister’s political secretary has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on suspicion of accepting a bribe in the form of a luxury watch worth about RM28,000.
The 47-year-old man was taken into custody at 5pm after he went to give his statement at MACC headquarters here today, MACC sources told Bernama.
Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Salahuddin Ayub confirmed to FMT this evening that his political secretary had been detained by MACC.
He said that he would not intervene in the MACC investigations.
“Let the law take its course. I hold firmly to the integrity of the law and I am confident and strongly believe that the MACC will carry out a fair investigation,” he said.
MACC sources told Bernama that the man was believed to have accepted the luxury watch as an inducement to enable a project developer to be awarded projects under the ministry’s purview.
MACC is expected to seek a remand order at the magistrate’s court here tomorrow.
