KOTA KINABALU: A daughter of the late Sandakan MP, Stephen Wong Tien Fatt, is among the names suggested as Sabah DAP’s candidate for the Sandakan by-election.

Sources said Wong’s politically-active youngest daughter, Vivian, seems to be the favourite.

The other possible candidates include Sabah Credit Corporation chairman John Khoo, Sandakan municipal councillor Bryan Chin and Wong’s public relations officer Jimmy Tsen.

Vivian, who has a degree in mass communications, had been working with her father as his officer in the state’s health and well-being ministry. She was also active in the party’s programmes.

“She was with her father throughout his political campaign and was also very involved in party activities.

“However, the name of this ‘favourite’ choice has been forwarded to the party’s Central Executive Committee for consideration,” the source said.

The source added the CEC might have other candidates in mind.

Opposition parties like Parti Bersatu Sabah, Liberal Democratic Party and Sabah Progressive Party are also expected to contest the parliamentary seat.

The Election Commission is expected to announce the date of the Sandakan by-election after a meeting tomorrow.

The Sandakan seat fell vacant following the sudden death of Wong last Thursday. He was believed to have suffered a heart attack.
