SEREMBAN: Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin has called on voters to support Barisan Nasional’s candidate for the Rantau by-election, Mohamad Hasan, to rein in the government’s arrogance.
The former youth and sports minister said if Mohamad is elected, he can be appointed as the opposition leader in Negeri Sembilan’s state assembly and will be able to pressure the Pakatan Harapan-led state government to fulfil its election pledges.
Khairy pointed out that Chinese voters in the past had backed the DAP as they did not want the Barisan Nasional to become too strong.
“The same principle can be applied to Tok Mat,” he said at a ceramah at Kampung Ulu Lalang, Rantau, last night, referring to Mohamad.
“A win won’t see the BN take over the state government. It will still be under PH. But if he is back in the state assembly, he will be a powerful voice.
“We need an opposition leader who is a former menteri besar to take on the current menteri besar,” he said.
Khairy said PH’s arrogance meant the rakyat have no one to turn to when they want their problems resolved.
“Just see how they (PH MPs) answer questions in parliament. They have become big-headed as they have too much power.”
The Rantau by-election on Saturday will see a four-cornered fight involving incumbent Mohamad, Dr Streram Sinnasamy from PKR and independent candidates Malar Rajaram and Mohd Nor Yassin.
