SEREMBAN: Work is to resume on a half-completed government housing scheme in Taman Ekar, Rantau, which is now expected to be ready in May next year, 17 months late.
Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said here today that the delay was a result of the contractor having run into financial difficulties.
The homes are being built under the federal government’s Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA) programme.
More than 600 house buyers have been affected by the delay.
Zuraida said the buyers could seek her help, after the project is ready, regarding any claims for late charges and compensation to be made against the contractor.
The work would be carried out by the current contractor, with tighter supervision in place. Zuraida said there might be legal complications if a new contractor was appointed.
House buyers have complained that the delay was causing financial difficulties as they had to pay off their housing loans.
