KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Menteri Besar Osman Sapian has tendered his resignation, Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced today.
“Yesterday, he sent two resignation letters, one to me and one to the Johor sultan,” the prime minister told reporters at the Parliament lobby, on the back of speculation that Osman would be replaced.
Osman’s absence during a visit by Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today also fueled speculation of his imminent removal as MB.
Mahathir said an acting MB could be named soon.
He added that under a deal among Pakatan Harapan parties, the Johor MB should come from PPBM.
“We have three or four candidates,” said Mahathir.
Besides Osman who is the Kempas assemblyman, the other assemblymen from PPBM are its president Muhyiddin Yassin (Gambir), Mohd Solihan Badri (Tenang), Sahruddin Jamal (Bukit Kepong), Alwiyah Talib (Endau), Rasman Ithnain (Sedili), Rosleli Jahari (Johor Lama), Mazlan Bujang (Puteri Wangsa), Che Zakaria Mohd Salleh (Permas), Mohd Izhar Ahmad (Larkin), and Tosrin Jarvanthi (Bukit Permai).
