PETALING JAYA: Johor’s vocal crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim today said the state palace had requested that Osman Sapian be removed as the menteri besar long before current speculations that he would be replaced.
He also expressed hope that the new menteri besar would not be Putrajaya’s “yes man”.
“The welfare of the people and well-being of the state must always be a priority,” he said on Twitter.
Speculation about Osman’s removal comes as the Pakatan Harapan government deals with tense relationships with the Johor royal family, as well as a dispute on aviation, marine rights, territorial waters and water supply with Singapore.
A high-ranking leader of PPBM recently told FMT that the party had not discussed about Osman getting replaced.
“But I won’t be surprised, the MB is supposed to be the link between the government and royalty and Osman hasn’t been doing that,” he said.
Tunku Ismail said the palace had long requested for Osman to be replaced.
“But other people are claiming credit and mileage, as if it was him who instructed.
“His Majesty requested for the MB to be replaced months ago.
“Remember, the appointment of the menteri besar is at the sole discretion of the Sultan. Stop the politicking.”
