PETALING JAYA: Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim says he is ready to defend himself following Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s remark that action will be taken against anyone who makes seditious remarks.
“If I have to go down defending the constitution, the Malay rulers and Islam. By all means. You know where to find me,” he tweeted tonight.
“As an ordinary citizen, I have a right to ask questions and give (my) opinions.
“I’m all yours. Finish what you start.”
Mahathir had said earlier that action will be taken against anyone who makes seditious remarks, adding that nobody is above the law,
The relationship between Putrajaya and the Johor royal family has grown tense recently.
It took a turn for the worse last week when the government withdrew from ratifying the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, citing “confusion arising politically and within society”.
Mahathir, who announced the decision, said one person in particular had created confusion over the matter because the person wanted to be “free to beat up people and things like that”.
Tunku Ismail’s tweet came after Johor Menteri Besar Osman Sapian tendered his resignation.
The crown prince said earlier the state palace had requested that Osman be removed long before the recent speculation that he would step down.
He had also expressed hope that the new menteri besar would not be Putrajaya’s “yes man”.
