KUALA LUMPUR: Six states have agreed to increase water tariffs, Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Xavier Jayakumar told the Dewan Rakyat today.
“The consultative process is ongoing, and another two states will soon agree to increase their water tariffs,” he said in response to Bung Moktar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) during question time.
To an earlier question by Bung, he said the ministry has no plans to set a ceiling price for water in each state as this would be difficult to implement.
“This is because the main structure and components in cost to provide water services, such as to treat and distribute water, differ according to state,” he said.
Xavier previously said a hike in water tariff would be necessary to improve the water industry and services nationwide.
