Johor sultan consents to appointment of new MB

The press statement issued by Johor State Secretary Azmi Rohani announcing tomorrow’s swearing-in ceremony for the new Johor menteri besar.

PETALING JAYA: The Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has consented to the appointment of a new menteri besar and the swearing-in ceremony will be held at Istana Bukit Serene in Johor Bahru at 9.30am tomorrow.

This was announced by Johor State Secretary Azmi Rohani in a press statement this afternoon.

Earlier today, the sultan granted an audience to Osman Sapian, who resigned as the menteri besar on Monday.

The audience was held at Istana Pasir Pelangi, also in Johor Bahru

According to Osman, Sultan Ibrahim asked him to return to Istana Pasir Pelangi for another audience this evening.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had confirmed on Tuesday that Osman submitted his resignation effective the day earlier.

Osman, 67, was the 16th Johor menteri besar and served the shortest period of less than 11 months after taking office on May 12 last year following Pakatan Harapan’s victory in the 14th general election.
