PETALING JAYA: Malaysian users have suffered intermittent problems with using Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram services since 6.30pm this evening, as an outage was reported at the three social media giants across the world.
Access to Facebook and WhatsApp appeared to be intermittently available via mobile phone and desktop computers, however, WhatsApp’s desktop services were reportedly not loading.
However, access appeared to have been fully restored by about 9pm for Malaysian users.
The technology site The Verge had reported earlier that some locations were more widely affected than others.
Facebook and Instagram are both inaccessible in the United States, with news feeds refusing to refresh and the main Facebook.com domain unavailable. “WhatsApp messages aren’t being sent or received” and users switched to Twitter to spread the word. Messenger, Facebook’s chat service, was also down, the Verge said.
A month ago, a “server configuration change” caused a massive outage across the world at Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, which was not cleared up until 24 hours later.
Facebook owns both WhatsApp and Instagram.
