No problems with Perak MB, says Khalid after coup talk

Khalid Samad told reporters not to believe rumours about Ahmad Faizal.

KUALA LUMPUR: There have not been any discussions at the top about Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu’s purported resignation, Amanah’s communications director Khalid Abdul Samad said today in the wake of reports of a coup plot.

An audio recording has been circulating online of people purportedly discussing plans to topple Faizal.

“Don’t believe rumours,” Khalid told reporters after speaking at an Amanah party event today.

“The issue was not raised in the Cabinet or the Pakatan Harapan presidential council. As far as I know, there are no problems (with Faizal as Perak Menteri Besar).”

“My advice is, don’t listen to rumours circulated on social media but instead allow the party members to refer to their leadership to get more information on this.

“This person who spread the inaccurate information is trying to create anxiety and panic among party members.

Perak state executive councillor Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim, who was also at the Amanah event, accused members of Umno-Barisan Nasional of resorting to smear tactics.

“Each time the Perak state assembly is sitting, this will happen. This is something done on purpose as the state assembly is sitting at the moment,” he said.

Hasnul added that there is no issue with the menteri besar. “The Exco is behind Ahmad Faizal,” he said.

The recording circulated online is reported to be of the voice of Abdul Aziz Bari. Education, executive councillor for environment, green technology and information and vice-chairman of Perak DAP.

He has since denied that he was one of those in the recording, purportedly featuring a state executive councillor discussing the menteri besar’s performance.
