KUALA LUMPUR: Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo has allocated RM87,000 for mosques and suraus in conjunction with Ramadan and the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

Gobind, who is also communications and multimedia minister, said the allocation would be channelled in stages to 40 suraus and 12 mosques, with each receiving RM1,500 and RM2,000 respectively.

Surau Al-Falah, which the minister visited yesterday, received RM3,000 for roof repairs.

“This is my first time providing allocations as a government parliamentarian because some provisions were given by the federal government,” he said.

“Before this, there were no such allocations and we were unable to give contributions like this.

“But now, we have, and we can channel as much as we can help. This is not going to be just one time. I hope, if permitted annually, I can still contribute – not just donations for Ramadan, but to assist in any way I can,” he said after handing over contributions to a mosque and seven suraus in Puchong.

He said he hoped the contributions would be put to good use, adding that any mosque or surau in Puchong that needs more assistance should write a letter as part of the mandatory procedure.

Surau Al-Falah president Rasedi Arof expressed gratitude for the contributions.

“This is the first time a minister has come to our surau. I would like to thank him for this contribution,” he said, adding that Gobind had provided such assistance even before being appointed to the Cabinet.

“Before he became a minister, he (Gobind) was always ready to help, and visited mosques and suraus several times including to provide donations to repair the roof of a surau here,” he said.
