Shafie appoints Frankie Poon as Sabah health minister

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Shafie Apdal has announced Sabah DAP chairman Frankie Poon as the new state health and people’s wellbeing minister, replacing Stephen Wong who died of a heart attack on March 28.

Poon had been acting as caretaker minister since Wong’s death.

Luyang rep Phoong Jin Zhe, Wong’s former political secretary, will replace Poon as youth and sports minister, while Sabah DAP treasurer Loh Ee Heng will be the new nominated assemblyman.

Shafie made the announcement in a press conference at the Sabah Air office here today before flying to Kuala Lumpur to attend the third meeting of the special committee on the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“The swearing-in ceremony will be next Tuesday,” he said.
