Wait one or two more days, board member says on fate of Yapeim man
Ghafar Ismail says he cannot comment until a press release is issued or the board of directors calls the press to clarify the situation.
PONTIAN: A member of the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (Yapeim) board of trustees says it may hold a press conference or issue a statement soon on the fate of director-general Abibullah Samsudin, who recently came under scrutiny for urging his staff not to vote for Pakatan Harapan (PH) in last year’s general election.
“Wait one or two more days, God willing. I cannot say anything until a press release is issued. Or the board of directors may call the press to clarify the situation,” Ghafar Ismail told reporters after a state-level Ramadan programme at Masjid Jamek Haji Ahmad Shah, Kampung Rimba Terjun, yesterday.
He was commenting on whether Abibullah was still with the board or not.
PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil was recently reported to have lodged a police report on a video recording of a man believed to be Abibullah influencing Yapeim in the last general election.
In the video, the man believed to be a senior official of Yapeim was seen warning his staff not to vote for PH.
Asked if the board had taken disciplinary action against Abibullah, Ghafar said action had been taken but not disciplinary action.
This includes the setting up of a special internal audit task force to look into the issue, based on a report from PwC.
He said Yapeim staff are appointed on a permanent basis so all action should be taken according to the proper channels and procedures.

“And the process has to be transparent and clear as we do not want to make a wrong decision or sentence a person without evidence,” he added.
