3 workers injured in collapse of building at Gombak LRT station
All three have been sent to hospital for treatment.
PETALING JAYA: Three construction workers were hurt when a building under construction next to the Gombak LRT station in Taman Melati collapsed early this morning.
Fire and Rescue Department commander M Murugiah said his staff received an emergency call at 1.13am, following which 46 personnel from the Wangsa Maju and South Gombak fire and rescue stations were dispatched to the scene.
According to the department, two workers were rescued and sent to the hospital first while the third remained trapped in the rubble for some time more.
The third worker, whose hand was caught in the debris, was eventually rescued at about 7.30am.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department director Nordin Pauzi said the rescue team had been forced to cut part of the worker’s hand in order to extract him from the rubble.
He was then sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment.
“The building is believed to have collapsed due to structural weaknesses,” he said, adding however that investigations are ongoing.
He told reporters that the collapse occurred at the entrance of the temporary car park, and that all construction work would be suspended.
