Mukhriz says sorry to Johor Sultan over handshake gaffe

GEORGE TOWN: Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir today apologised to Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar for inadvertently not shaking his hand at the wake of the late Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah yesterday.

This was after a video by Twitter user Friends of Johor showed Mukhriz skipping on greeting the Johor royalty lining up at the wake of the late Pahang sultan, going instead straight to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to pay his obeisance (rafak sembah).

A statement by Mukhriz’s office today said Mukhriz had written a letter of apology to Sultan Ibrahim and had sought his forgiveness for not shaking his hand at the wake.

“The MB has told the sultan that this was due to an inadvertent mistake and oversight and that this does not reflect on the polite nature of Kedahans at large,” the statement read.
