TEMERLOH: The number of vehicles plying the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway (KLK) and the East Coast Highway 1 (LPT1) is expected to reach 1.6 million during the nine-day Hari Raya season next month.
Traffic is expected to increase by 65% from June 1 to 3 when those living in the Klang Valley return home for the celebration, Anih Berhad executive director Nik Fauzi Nik Hussein said.
The number of vehicles on KLK is expected to rise from 108,000 a day to 179,000 during the holidays, and from 48,000 to 76,600 on the LPT1.
“To deal with the increase, travel time proposals (TTAs) will be issued to reduce congestion during the peak periods.
“We will also provide toll discounts and conduct traffic patrols,” Nik Fauzi said at the “Barakah Sharing Ramadan” programme, during which packets of dates and iftar meals were distributed to LPT1 users at the Temerloh Rest and Recreation stop yesterday.
He said Rela personnel will assist staff along the two highways during the period.
