PETALING JAYA: About one-third of private vehicles have brake problems and sideslip problems, national vehicle inspection company Puspakom said today.

It said its examination of private vehicles brought in for inspections voluntarily showed this worrying trend among motorists not bothering about their brakes.

About 10% of the vehicles were also emitting excessive amounts of smoke.

“Faulty brakes can lead to accidents especially during this school holiday and festive season,” it said in a statement today.

Thousands of people are now on the roads to take advantage of the school holidays and to “balik kampung” for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Puspakom, in a statement today, said it is offering free inspections at its 54 centres countrywide in view of the festive season, from May 24 till June 2.

Puspakom’s mobile units will also be providing free inspection services at various places in the country.

It urged motorists to take advantage of this offer to ensure their safety on the roads.
