Vell Paari quits as MIC secretary-general

Vell Paari says he wants to concentrate on his business.

PETALING JAYA: S Vell Paari has resigned from his position as MIC secretary-general to concentrate on his business.

The 54-year-old son of former MIC president S Samy Vellu, who was appointed the party’s secretary-general on Nov 14 last year, is succeeded by Johor state liaison chairman M Asojan.

Vell Paari said he had been planning to step down from the position for some time but had stayed on to ensure MIC was running smoothly.

“I’m travelling most of the time and entering into a regional joint-venture with an MNC and one of the requirements is not being in a decision-making position of a political party,” he told FMT today.

“I had planned it for some time but held it off to ensure smooth party operations. So I stayed on for a while until organisation of the MIC AGM is done.”

Vell Paari was chief executive officer of Maika Holdings before the closure of the MIC company in 2009.

MIC president SA Vigneswaran, who handed over the appointment letter to Asojan, also announced that central working committee member AK Ramalingam has been appointed the party’s executive secretary.
