Man held over ‘Dato Kong’ worship to be freed on police bail

BAGAN SERAI: A fisherman detained to assist in a case of worshiping at a “Dato Kong” altar at Tanjung Piandang here yesterday will be released on police bail today.

Kerian police chief Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob said the man would be produced at the Parit Buntar Magistrate’s Court for the remand order to be cancelled.

He said the 43-year-old suspect was expected to be released before 7pm or after the investigation by a team from Bukit Aman had been completed.

“The case will not stop here as the investigation from various aspects will go on,” he said.

Police arrested the suspect when he went to the Kerian police headquarters at 5pm yesterday to surrender himself..

A video recording of the fisherman allegedly worshiping at the “Dato Kong” altar at Taman Piandang Indah went viral on social media recently.
