KUALA LUMPUR: Otai Reformasi has urged Dr Mahathir Mohamad to set a date on when he intends to hand over the reins of power to Anwar Ibrahim, as they alleged the prime minister did not honour the Pakatan Harapan manifesto.
The group, which comprises diehard “Reformasi” supporters, said even though Mahathir had promised to hand over the post to the PKR president in two years, the PPBM chairman should still set a date to inspire confidence in the people and investors.
“Mahathir says one thing at one place and another at a different place. It’s very odd,” its chairman, Dr Idris Ahmad, said at a press conference.
“How long must we wait? If there is a timeline, investors will know when to plough money into the country.”
Under a deal struck by the PH leadership, Anwar will succeed Mahathir as prime minister in two years’ time.
But in May, Mahathir assured that while he would hand over the reins to Anwar as promised, no time frame had been given for the transfer of power.
Mahathir previously said he needed between two and a half and three years to fix problems related to the country’s finances, inherited from the previous Barisan Nasional government.
