PETALING JAYA: Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali has posted photographs showing him at an audience today with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, who had made a special visit to the United Arab Emirates on Saturday.
In a Twitter posting, Azmin thanked the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, for granting him an audience, and said his ministry would seize opportunities presented by the king’s visit to the emirates.
Bilateral economic relations between Malaysia and UAE will be enhanced across various sectors for value-added economic collaboration, he said.
Sultan Abdullah’s visit to the UAE had special meaning as he was college mates at Sandhurst Military College in Britain in the 1970s with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
In a statement on Saturday, Istana Negara noted that the special treatment accorded to the Agong reflected the close friendship between both men who first crossed paths more than 40 years ago.
Sultan Abdullah also met with UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Minister of Tolerance Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan.
