KUCHING: Sarawak will hold a Rainforest in the City music and culture event from July 2-11 in advance of the Rainforest World Music Festival from July 12-14.

The city event will also be part of the Visit Sarawak 2019 campaign. It will be held at Kuching Amphitheatre from 7.30pm to 11pm. Attendance is free.

State tourism, arts, culture, youth and sports minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the event, held for the first time, will showcase Sarawak’s unique culture, nature, food, music as well as a lighting display featuring four main installations with LED lights, he said.

The forest projection mapping would serve as the main highlight of the event, allowing people to re-imagine nature by using the trees as a canvas to artfully blend visuals of Sarawak’s cultural elements, he said.

“The LED tree, which is inspired by the “Tree of Eywa” (Tree of Souls) from the movie Avatar aims to show how trees are synonymous to Sarawak by breathing new life and perspectives with fiber optics and LED lightings.”

“The “tunnel of life” is a sculpture glimmering with lights and will be the backbone of this whole event. It will be located at the centre of the Amphitheater.”

“There will also be musical performances by At Adau, a Sarawakian local band at the official launching night on July 2,” he said.

Karim advised visitors to use e-hailing services or car pools to avoid traffic jams. Drivers may also use Jalan Batu Lintang or Jalan Tabuan as an alternative route to avoid being caught in a traffic jam.
