KUALA LUMPUR: Police today confirmed that Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu’s son was charged with taking drugs last Thursday.

Bernama quoted Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department acting director Kamarulzaman Mamat as saying the 31-year-old was charged under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Ahmad Saiful Islam was released on RM3,000 bail.

“The accused is awaiting trial next month at the Kuala Lumpur courts,” he said.

Last January, Bernama reported that the son of a minister had been arrested by police for allegedly testing positive for ganja at an entertainment centre on Jalan Ampang here.

Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, had earlier said that no one, including his son, was above the law but hoped his son would get a fair trial.
