PETALING JAYA: PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin will push for the sacking of Haziq Aziz, the youth leader at the centre of the gay sex video affair, at the party’s political bureau meeting this evening.
Haziq, she said, should be booted out for embarrassing the party and tarnishing its image and that of the PKR leadership, especially after he admitted to being one of the two individuals in the video clips which went viral last week.
Zuraida, who is the housing and local government minister, also chided her own party for not taking immediate action against the Santubong youth chief.
“PKR was unwise not to sack Haziq after what he had done.
“Sex against the order of nature is a crime in the country, and he should be fired from the party immediately,” she told reporters after attending her ministry’s Raya open house earlier today.
Last week, Haziq, the private secretary to Deputy Primary Industries Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, said the videos, which he claimed were recorded without his permission, were taken on May 11 at the Four Points hotel in Sandakan, during the recent by-election there.
He named Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali, also of PKR, as the other person in the video.
Azmin strongly denied the claim and threatened legal action.
Haziq was arrested last Friday and is being investigated for several offences including carnal intercourse against the order of nature and distribution of obscene material. He has since been released on police bail.
Zuraida also hit out at those who demanded Azmin’s resignation or for him to go on leave, labelling such calls as “stupid and nonsensical”.
“Leaders who made such calls should be more rational.”
An aide to party president Anwar Ibrahim said Azmin should step down if it was proven that the video clips allegedly showing him engaging in homosexual acts were genuine.
Anwar has since distanced himself from the remarks of his political secretary Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak.
