Dispute over PM succession ‘personal views’, says Muhyiddin

PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin.

JELEBU: The spat between several PKR and PPBM leaders over the transition of the prime minister’s post are personal views and not that of the parties, Muhyiddin Yassin said.

The PPBM president said the four component parties in Pakatan Harapan (PH) have made their stands on the matter and this was agreed upon at the beginning.

“There are no differences. If there are opposing views, then these are the views of individuals. The views of the parties remain the same.

“Our commitment is based on the agreement and understanding among PH parties and we are holding to that principle,” he said after the Negeri Sembilan PH-PPBM Aidilfitri celebration here today.

Present were state PH chairman Aminuddin Harun, Negeri Sembilan PPBM chairman Rais Yatim and his deputy, Eddin Syazlee Shith.

Muhyiddin was commenting on recent statements by several PKR and PPBM leaders on the transfer of power from Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

Several PKR leaders, including Kedah PKR chairman Johari Abdul, PKR Central Leadership Council member Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid and pressure group Otai Reformasi, have been pressuring Mahathir to hand over the reins to Anwar.

Selangor PPBM treasurer Mohd Shaid Rosli today openly said the party is confident of its strength and will defend Mahathir if his leadership is challenged.

In this regard, Muhyiddin also said he is confident PPBM will emerge stronger after the party elections are held for the first time, three years after it was established.

He said the elections will be held after the extraordinary general meeting (EGM) scheduled to be held next month to amend several parts of the party’s constitution on discipline, membership and elections.

“PPBM has just been set up and we are still in the early stage.

“It is important for us to implement the system of democracy and the elections should be participated by as many members as possible so that the party grows stronger,” he said.
