PUTRAJAYA: PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail today urged his colleague Zuraida Kamaruddin to respect the party political bureau’s decision on Haziq Aziz concerning the gay sex video scandal.
Saifuddin said Zuraida was also present during the last political bureau meeting, where the issue concerning Haziq was discussed, including the show cause letter issued to him.
“Zuraida, as the party vice-president, is also part of the political bureau. She took part in that discussion. After that, we made the decision together. It was collective,” he told reporters after attending the National Cost of Living Action Council meeting here today.
At the last political bureau meeting, PKR gave the Santubong Youth chief two weeks to respond and defend himself for tarnishing the name, image and reputation of the party for his recent confession that he was one of the two men in the gay sex video clips that went viral.
Zuraida later reportedly said that if it were up to her, Haziq would have been sacked from the party immediately.
This prompted calls by Wanita PKR vice-chief Faizah Ariffin for Zuraida to be disciplined over her remarks, saying that her comments were not in line with the party’s decisions on the matter.
On whether disciplinary action will be taken against Zuraida, Saifuddin, who is also the domestic trade and consumer affairs minister, said the party will proceed with its weekly political bureau meeting, and if the issue is raised, it will be discussed.
In his confession, Haziq also claimed that PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali was the other person in the video.
The economic affairs minister denied the allegation, saying it was made to tarnish his reputation and destroy his political career.
