KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin has welcomed the return of Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to helm Umno.
Bung said he had never considered the Umno president to be on garden leave, adding that party members in Sabah were happy with Zahid’s decision.
“Actually, there is no such thing as gardening leave in a struggle,” Bung told FMT.
“I hope all Umno members can accept his intentions to come back to lead the party,” he said.
The Kinabatangan MP said Sabah Umno would also be inviting Zahid to officiate at several divisional meetings in the state this month.
“He will officiate at annual general meetings at five divisions in Sabah on July 30,” he said.
Bung also said Zahid’s corruption charges should not be an issue.
“The charges are different and politics is another thing. He will be able to handle them.”
Zahid has been slapped with a total of 87 corruption charges.
Announcing his comeback yesterday, Zahid said he was unperturbed by the long list of charges against him.
