KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P Waytha Moorthy is forming a task force to map out strategies for the Indian community.

Waytha said in a statement today that the task force would assist him in formulating new strategies and policies for the socio-economic development of the Indian community.

These strategies and policies, he said, would be adopted for inclusion in the 12th Malaysia Plan, which is expected to be tabled in Parliament in the third quarter of 2020.

“The 12th Malaysia Plan, from 2021-2025, will be the first created by the new Pakatan Harapan government.

“It aims to produce a new economic model encompassing the true needs and aspirations of the Malaysian Indian community and will take into account the promises made in its general election manifesto.”

He said he had already initiated consultations with several experts on identifying the policies and strategies as well as programmes necessary to ensure that the Indian community, especially those from the B40 group, would benefit equally with other Malaysians under the 12th Malaysia Plan.

He said he would also conduct dialogues with government ministries, state agencies, NGOs and members of the public.

He was confident the Indian community would prosper with the other communities under the 12th Malaysia Plan, which has the theme of economic empowerment, environmental sustainability and social re-engineering.

Waytha invited economists, corporate personalities, academics and community leaders keen to be part of this task force to contact Che Sham Manaf at 03-8872 7128 or email [email protected]
