KUALA LUMPUR: Shahidan Kassim (BN-Arau) today asked Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to unite all Malay parties under one roof without having to join PPBM.
He said the Chinese and Indians could also join the political parties to be under one roof.
“Happy birthday, Tun Mahathir. We wish you the best and hope your dreams are achieved, especially to unite all Malay parties so that Malaysia will be seen as a strong country,” he said while debating on the Companies Bill at the Dewan Rakyat.
He said the present political situation was in chaos and it would be good to unite.
At present, the four Malay-based political parties are Umno, PAS, Amanah and PPBM. PKR is a multiracial party.
Shahidan also requested to sing a birthday song for Mahathir but Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof said he and others had already wished Mahathir earlier.
Willie Mongin (PH-Puncak Borneo) reminded Shahidan not to stray from the topic and talk on the Companies Bill.
Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa had recently said Umno has no problem with Mahathir’s call for Malay parties to unite under PPBM, but maintains its reservations about being part of any alliance with DAP.
He had said PPBM cannot be the platform to unite the Malays as long as it relies on non-Malay parties, especially DAP, to be part of the ruling coalition.
