Perak exco arrested following rape report

The exco’s arrest follows news that the swearing-in ceremony for Perak executive council members has been postponed.

PETALING JAYA: The police have arrested a member of the Perak executive council (exco) in connection with claims of sexual assault against his domestic worker.

Perak police chief Razarudin Husain @ Abd Rasid said the exco member was arrested last night to facilitate investigations.

“In order to ensure a fair investigation, we arrested the suspect last night,” he told Bernama when contacted today.

However, he did not elaborate on the arrest, saying a statement will be issued soon.

It was reported yesterday that an Indonesian national had lodged a police report at the Jelapang station in Ipoh on Monday.

The woman claimed she had been raped by the exco member.

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code.

A source in the Perak menteri besar’s office told FMT yesterday that the annual swearing-in ceremony for the exco members, scheduled for tomorrow, had been postponed indefinitely following the police report.
