KUALA LUMPUR: Lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo insists that Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat call for an internal investigation into alleged judicial interference in Karpal Singh’s sedition appeal.
She said the issue could not be disregarded despite the acquittal of Karpal, her late father and DAP chairman, by the Federal Court in March on a sedition charge.
“The fact remains that there is no investigation and no real outcome in relation to the allegations of interference in the Court of Appeal’s decision.
“I have written to Justice Tengku Maimun and she has also responded. My ultimate goal is to have this allegation investigated and not for it to silently disappear,” she said after attending the mention of her case against the chief justice at the High Court here.
The court set Aug 8 for next case mention, but it will depend on the outcome of the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) bid to expunge Court of Appeal judge Hamid Sultan Abu Backer’s affidavit in support of Sangeet’s lawsuit.
Hamid had claimed there was interference by the judiciary in several high profile cases, including that involving Karpal.
Sangeet filed a suit against the chief justice in January, seeking a court declaration that the top judge had failed in his duty to preserve and protect the integrity of the judiciary.
Richard Malanjum was the chief justice when the lawsuit was filed. He retired on April 13.
