PH must boost Malay support for GE15, says Mat Sabu

PETALING JAYA: Amanah president Mohamad Sabu says Pakatan Harapan (PH) must increase its Malay support base in order to capture more seats in the next general election.

In an interview on TV3 last night, he said this would also strengthen the coalition.

“That is why we have agreed to work hard to increase our Malay support,” he said when asked to comment on Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s invitation to Malay-based political parties to unite under PPBM.

The prime minister had said this is crucial as the Malays are presently split among six parties.

Mohamad, popularly known as Mat Sabu, said he had no objection to Mahathir’s appeal.

“I don’t have a problem with that as a lot of people are also choosing Amanah. This includes former Umno leaders,” he said.

Mohamad, who was previously with PAS, said he had helped the Islamist party set up many branches which are now being used for talks by former Umno president Najib Razak.

“I am disappointed as PAS is accepting Bossku to give talks at areas where main PAS branches were built,” he said, referring to the former prime minister.
