KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu says the defence ministry’s white paper on the drafting of policies related to national defence and security will be tabled at the next Parliament session.
Mohamad, popularly known as Mat Sabu, previously said the document would take into account short- and long-term national defence policies and provide an understanding on the ministry’s direction.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad meanwhile said in March that the white paper would provide a clear description of the roles of agencies and organisations involved in national security.
Speaking to reporters in Parliament today, Mohamad said the government is also in the process of upgrading hospital facilities at the Rohingya refugee camps at Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh.
He said his ministry would work together with the health ministry in these efforts.
“Maybe we will ask for more medical doctors to be stationed there for the comfort of the refugees,” he added.
He also said the ministry is looking into extending the medical services scheduled to end on Dec 31. He said this would be discussed with the authorities in Bangladesh.
