Cops given free rein to probe gay sex videos, says IGP

Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador.

KUALA LUMPUR: Top cop Abdul Hamid Bador today said the police have been given free rein to investigate the gay sex videos targeted at Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.

“I have made it very clear that there is no interference from anyone, no specific pressure on me, nothing at all.

“We are very free to conduct our own investigation,” he told reporters after visiting the defence ministry here.

Police have so far arrested nine people for distributing the clips, including former Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Aziz, who openly admitted that he was one of two men shown in the videos.

Haziq had named Azmin as the other man, a claim rejected by the PKR deputy president who pointed fingers at a conspiracy to end his political career.

Also arrested was Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, who is seen as aligned with the “Anwar Ibrahim camp” in PKR.
