Act against those behind gay sex video, Johor PKR branch chiefs tell Anwar

Batu Pahat PKR branch chief Mohd Rashid Hasnon.

PETALING JAYA: A group of Johor PKR branch leaders, led by former Penang deputy chief minister Mohd Rashid Hasnon, is urging party president Anwar Ibrahim to take stern action against members attempting to destroy Mohamed Azmin Ali’s credibility with a gay sex video.

In a joint statement, the 10 said they rejected politics of slander just as they had rejected sodomy claims linked to Anwar and another involving a “China doll”.

Beside Rashid (Batu Pahat), the branch leaders are Dr Chong Fat Full (Ledang), Steven Choong (Tebrau), Dr S Sivarajah (Segamat), Mark Mathew (Kluang), Mohd Bakri Said (Sri Gading), Ronald Sia (Pontian), Pang Yock Tong (Labis), Dr Yogeswaran Subramaniam (Iskandar Puteri) and Subramani Chami (Pagoh).

They said they were shocked by Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador’s revelation that a group, masterminded by a leader of a political party, was behind the gay sex clips implicating Azmin.

The branch leaders said Hamid’s statement proved there was an attempt to tarnish the image of the economic affairs minister.

“We must reject gutter politics,” they said.

They also voiced their support for vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin and the 28 central committee members who called on Anwar to unite the party.

Their statement came as party leaders prepared to gather tonight for a “retreat” in Port Dickson.

Yesterday, Hamid revealed that the video was produced by parties who were paid hundreds of thousands of ringgit.

Previously, then Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Aziz had admitted to being one of two people in a viral video of two men engaging in sex acts.

He named Azmin as the other person in the video, a claim the Gombak MP has strongly denied.

Police have arrested nine people for distributing the clips, including Haziq and Perak PKR leader Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, who is also Anwar’s political secretary.
