KUCHING: Putrajaya has approved an allocation of RM2 million for major repair works along Tun Razak Road.
Pending assemblyman Violet Yong said repairs from Foochow Road to Chawan Road are expected to start by the end of September.
She said the allocation is over and above the federal government’s development project fund as it is meant for the road’s maintenance.
Yong said they had requested the allocation after public complaints on the poor condition of Tun Razak Road.
She said there are several ruts on the road which pose a danger to road users.
She said there are also plans to repair another section of the road from the Sungai Apong traffic light junction to the Penview Hotel intersection. However, the allocation has not been finalised.
Yong urged the federal government to come up with a more systematic procedure to monitor road conditions in Sarawak, with priority given to those requiring routine maintenance.
“The relevant government departments can then take quick action instead of waiting for people to lodge complaints. The safety of road users must be prioritised,” she said.
