PORT DICKSON: PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali failed to turn up to deliver a speech tonight on the second day of the party’s retreat, causing party president Anwar Ibrahim to take over the vacant slot.
Azmin had been scheduled to give a 15 minute speech tonight on the contribution of the party leadership.
Yesterday he was not present when Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad delivered the opening speech.
Others who did not turn up to give their speeches were party vice presidents Zuraida Kamaruddin and Ali Biju. However, party vice presidents Xavier Jayakumar, Rafizi Ramli and Chang Lih Kang were present.
Zuraida, who is the federal minister for housing and local government, had said her absence was not a boycott of the retreat but because she was busy with official duties on a visit to Indonesia.
Earlier today, Anwar had said that the party welcomed a police statement indicating that Azmin was not involved in a gay sex clip. Anwar reiterated the party’s stand against gutter politics.
Anwar had previously said that if investigations proved that Azmin was involved in the sex clip, then he should resign, a statement which led to a sharp rebuke from Azmin.
