PETALING JAYA: Police were called in when protesters gathered at a mosque in Melaka where independent preacher Wan Ji Wan Hussin was giving a sermon.
More than 50 people gathered outside Masjid Ar Rahman in Durian Tunggal to try to stop Wan Ji, according to Malaysiakini. Police formed a line to prevent the protesters from advancing into the mosque. They moved outside after police intervention and eventually dispersed.
Wan Ji has been in the news over the past week after he was ordered to begin serving a jail sentence after his conviction on a sedition charge for remarks he made online about Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor and religious issues. He has obtained a stay pending an appeal.
