Several cars trapped in floodwaters in USJ, Subang Jaya.

PETALING JAYA: Major flash floods caused havoc and massive traffic jams in USJ and parts of Subang Jaya.

This followed heavy rain that lasted less than an hour earlier today.

Affected areas in Subang included Persiaran Kewajipan, Persiaran Subang Mewah, PJS 9/8, USJ 2/4Q, PJS 7/15, Jalan SS14, Persiaran Setia and Persiaran Tujuan.

Pictures and videos of damaged cars and vehicles driving through flooded stretches were widely shared on social media.

Subang MP Wong Chen told FMT that he had been informed that motorists in parts of Shah Alam had also reported similar problems.

He said he was working with Subang Jaya assemblywoman Michelle Ng to identify the areas affected and what sort of assistance could be offered to those affected.

“The police have so far not received any reports of injuries.”

On Facebook, Ng said Subang Jaya and Shah Alam experienced extraordinary rainfall today.

“I am in discussions with Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) as to the root cause of the flooding.”

She wanted MPSJ and the Selangor Drainage and Irrigation Department to take note of these affected areas to prevent a recurrence.
