Only a blind person will say there’s no difference between PH and BN, says Dr M

Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said only a blind, deaf and dumb person will say that there is no difference between his administration and the previous Barisan Nasional government.

“Did we borrow RM42 billion? Did we have our own 1MDB? Did I steal money? Did I bribe people?”

He was speaking to reporters after opening the 62nd International Statistical Institute World Statistics Congress 2019 (ISI WSC 2019) at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The event was also attended by Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.

Mahathir was asked to comment on a statement by DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang that there were people who are going all out to undermine the PH.

Mahathir further challenged anyone to take him to court if he had bribed anyone.

“Prove it. If I bribe people, you can take me to  court,” he said

He added that the PH government was also moving to limit the term of the prime minister.

“Did Najib (Razak) do that? We are going to debate 1MDB. Did Najib allow a debate on 1MDB?

“People should appreciate the good things that they have received. They are only seeing the bad things because they want to bring down this government,” he added.

Mahathir also said those who were close to him when Najib was the prime minister were punished but under PH, Najib’s friends are not treated the same.

“We had restriction on news before, you know. If you make friends with me, you would get into trouble in Najib’s time.

“But now, there are lots of people who are very close to Najib, going around and making funny assertions like ‘cash is king but by king I mean the people’.

“How idiotic can you be? Am I like that? Do I make a stupid assertion like that?” he asked.

On the teaching of khat (Jawi writing) in vernacular schools from next year, he said people had the option to take it.

“You don’t have to take it. Those who want to take it, what is wrong with that? It is a choice. If you don’t want to take it, don’t take it lah,” he said.
