PETALING JAYA: Perak state executive council member Paul Yong Choo Kiong, who was under investigation following a claim of rape by an Indonesian maid, is expected to be charged in the Ipoh Sessions Court tomorrow.
Sources told FMT that Yong, who is also the assemblyman for Tronoh, had been notified by police this morning about the pending charge.
“A legal team is being assembled to represent Yong and this includes making a submission on bail application,” a source said.
Police arrested Yong, 49, on July 9 following a report filed by the 23-year-old maid for the alleged offence committed in a house in Meru near Ipoh.
He was later released on police bail.
The case was investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
Those convicted under this section can be punished with a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping.
On Monday, Perak police chief Razarudin Hussain said the investigation papers were submitted last Friday (Aug 16) to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.
On Aug 9, Razarudin said the investigation papers were returned for the second time to the police for them to conduct more detailed investigations to provide justice to both parties involved.
