‘Very unhealthy’ air quality in Sarikei, 3 other areas in Sarawak

KUCHING: The air quality in four areas, including Sarikei, was at a very unhealthy level this morning.

According to the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee, Sarikei recorded an Air Pollutant Index reading of 206 at 8am, up from 193 at 8pm yesterday.

Kuching entered its third day in the same category, recording an API reading of 242 compared to 223 last night, while the air quality in Sri Aman and Samarahan was slightly better, but still very unhealthy.

Sri Aman recorded an API reading of 244, down from 252, and Samarahan 201, compared to 205 previously.

The air quality at the SK Baram area saw a drop to “moderate” compared to “unhealthy” yesterday, with an API reading of 96 this morning compared to 122 yesterday.

The readings in four other areas remained at unhealthy levels, with Miri recording 102 (163), ILP Miri 145 (146), Sibu 173 (187) and Mukah 119 (125).

An API reading of under 50 means the air quality is good, 51-100 moderate, 101-200 unhealthy, 201-300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous.
