PETALING JAYA: As of 9am today, the air pollutant index (API) readings in Malaysia were below 200 but still at unhealthy levels.
Johan Setia Klang, Sri Aman, Batu Muda, and Tasek Ipoh had the highest readings at 9am – 193, 188, 171, and 168 respectively- according to the haze monitoring team of the Department of Environment.
All of these areas saw a significant rise in their readings compared with yesterday.
An API reading of 0-50 shows good air quality; 51-100, moderate; 101-200, unhealthy; 201-300, very unhealthy and over 300, hazardous.
According to the Meteorological Department yesterday, inter-monsoon thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds will occur on Tuesday, which is expected to be able to ease the air pollution.
But the department has also warned that the rain and winds have the potential to cause flash floods and damage to weak infrastructures.
