Man who stabbed friend over unpaid debts charged with murder

GEORGE TOWN: A man who stabbed his friend to death while demanding the repayment of money owed to him was charged with murder at the Magistrate’s Court here today.

Moharizmi Azli, 35, was charged with murdering Mohamad Nurulhudin Ismail, 31, on Sept 15 at about 11.30pm at a clock tower outside Kompleks Bukit Jambul, Jalan Rumbia.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

No plea was recorded as it was a murder charge.

Magistrate Umma Devi Loganathan set Nov 11 for mention pending a chemist’s report and a post-mortem report.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohammad Syafiq Nasrullah Saleem Ali prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.

Police reportedly said that a 28cm knife used in the killing was recovered by a woman some 70m from the scene of the crime.

Investigators said a fight broke out between Moharizmi and Nurulhudin over unpaid debts. The stabbing was caught on public CCTV cameras.

They said Moharizmi, known to his friends as “Mi Sabah”, allegedly stabbed Nurulhudin in the right side of the chest.
