PETALING JAYA: PAS has agreed to participate in the Malay Dignity Congress to be officiated by Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Shah Alam this Sunday.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the decision was made by the Islamist party’s top leadership today.
“The central committee took the stand to attend the congress as a way to unite the ummah (Muslim community) and the country,” he said.
The congress is jointly organised by Universiti Malaya’s Malay Excellence Studies Centre, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris.
The congress is expected to address problems faced by the Malays including those related to education, religion, culture, politics and the economy.
But it drew flak from an Umno leader who said public universities were being used for PPBM’s political agenda.
Last month, PAS and Umno signed a historic charter, officially ending their decades-old enmity.
