KUALA LUMPUR: A PAS MP today urged DAP’s RSN Rayer to defect to the Islamist party after the latter professed to be a fan of Nik Aziz Nik Mat, the party’s late spiritual adviser.
Che Abdullah Mat Nawi (PAS-Tumpat) said Rayer had on several occasions brought up what Nik Aziz had said at yesterday’s sitting.
Rayer then said he was a fan of Nik Aziz and still regarded him as a renowned leader.
To this, Che Abdullah shot back: “Join PAS, become a Muslim. Tok Guru died when he was in PAS and as a Muslim,” he said, referring to Nik Aziz’s moniker.
Rayer went on to thank Che Abdullah and reminded him that Nik Aziz had always advised against teaming up with Umno.
“If you have any dignity, do not befriend Umno. Umno is like a snake that will bite you two or three times.”
Deputy speaker Nga Kor Ming then intervened, reminding MPs that the Dewan Rakyat sitting was meant to debate bills, not religion.
Last month, PAS and Umno signed a historic charter to formalise their political cooperation.
